Week 12 Assignments

Describe connections your are making between cell biology and your TCM studies.
The cell biology is the basis of how our molecular structure works. How we function. With out a knowledgeable understanding of this process we can't treat our patients with the proper techniques which will be useful to our bodies as they exist and function. If we use the knowledge of biochemistry and Molecular Biology, to find and create a total treatment of the human, then we are creating a type of harmony in the total system of functioning. By knowing what we need to put into the body in order to create a total harmony of functioning of the cellular structures, then we can attempt to function in a more holistic fashion in which the human anatomy is designed to be most efficient. We as practitioners need to be able to understand the purification of the system and put it to use. If we can eliminate the free radicals and restore the system to a higher functioning then we are achieving what we as holistic practitioners should be believing and practicing ourselves to provide the most pure care possible to our patients.
How Cells Divide: Mitosis vs. Meiosis
Well, my impressions, it seems as if we have evolved to be more complex in how we create each other. Maybe this is the process to possibly an even higher more complex process in the future. I don't really know. Maybe this is why we need or have an instinctual need to be with others. We have been or or just are, through evolution, created to function with the need to have a secondary to reproduce. Why is this so? Basically because we have evolved into this type of situation. I don't know any further. I know that we don't all feel the need to procreate so I don't know that we are all driven by this process but we have all been given the possibility. I personally feel that maybe it would be interesting if we were able to develop babies through Mitosis. If we as humans could impregnate and have offspring independently without the involvement of a secondary for genetic make up then it might even be a different world. I don't know if I really wish for such a thing but could it be a possibility? Would it be of sound decision to create such a possibility? Who is to say? All I can be sure of is that this is the evolutionary process we have taken. There may be other life forms in our vast universe that have these capabilities but at this time are unknown to us. Maybe even this is a type of diversity that confronts us and makes us consider different possibilities in the evolution of reproduction.

Week 11 assignments

-Examine your won emmediate environment for diversity
of species. Post your findings.
In examining my own immediate environment I first
think of all the new super bugs that we are fighting.
We have things which have adapted to the antibiotics
that we have been using in the past which have become
immune to them. This if foremost in my mind. Will we
be able to keep up and eliminate a new diverse species
of bugs that are out to attack our host environments?
I hope that our scientific industries are working on
this, which I am sure they are, but we have seen
things change before our eyes.

-Check out the various links on cells in 2. below, and
post you impressions.
So many things so complex in what we sometimes take
for granted. I and others need to really consider the
process in which we take care of our bodies. We really
need to think more on a cellular level to pursue
health matters that way as well daily. We ourselves
need to pursue that on a personal level. Also, as I
looked at some of the virus and bacteria cell
structure all I could seem to thing of is that those
cells seemed to visually look more alien. The have a
type of structure that I have seen in movies
(throughout history of film) that have this sort of
alien characteristic to them as we would see aliens
portrayed visually to us. Visually there also seemed
to be a more diverse structure to the animal and plant
structures than what the others had too. More things
making up the cell that what the others have.

-Take a look at Spike's Gallery in 3. below
Again what comes to mind is "alien" to realize that
there are so many unusual, diverse, speices out there
is sometime even mind bogeling. I sometime feel like I
am looking at a strange new art exhibit from the mind
of some abstract artist. I guess that we are we just
aren't sure who or what the artist is?

Week 10

-Post your thoughts on gene therapy-
The mapping of genes is an extremely touchy topic. I
feel that if we use it to discover things and use it
for changing things that aren't already in existence
in our world as we know it, then this is what the
higher power or what ever you believe created us has
enabled us to do with our intelligence. Creating new
things that could fight cancer or eliminate things
such as autism I don't think we can deny as long as we
aren't creating a new super human race no matter what
the reason.

-Chemistry of Life review-
Link #6 Bio chemistry is the study of molecules
(e.g. proteins) in the absence of the rest of the
organism.
Next Link to- What is molecular Biology?"
This article really made me think about what we
are made up of and challenged me to ponder the
existence of a higher power. The more knowledge I gain
at times is harder to have faith. I mean really, if we
are made up of all this genetic material and it merely
takes some water, electricity, and the proper
combination of genetic materials and poof we have
something then why couldn't that really have been how
we came to existence with of course a process of
evolution. This article really provoked me to think
deeper than I generally do.

-Check out and post a review of one of the ANIMATIONS
from the link below-
I felt like this site could be very beneficial to
those who might not gain as much from reading
material. We have become such visual oriented society
with the age of the television into the internet that
having animations for such things as simply boiling
water can create a better understanding for those who
are visual learners.

Semiconductor of the week

Silicon- one of three elemental semiconductors-

Atomic #: 14
Group: 14
Period: 3

series: Metalliods (Non Metal)

Conductivity: electrical: 2.52 E -12 10 6/cm
thermal: 1.48 w/cmK

Levels in the human body-
Blood/mgdm -3: 3.9
Bone/p.p.m: 17
Liver/p.p.m:12-120
Muscle/p.p.m: 100-200
Dietary intake: 18-1200 mg
Total Mass in Avg. 70kg human: 1g

There are significant levels also found in sea
water. Felt this was a good semiconductor since our
bodies require water and use electricity to function
on an elemental basis.

Chembalancer- This is a great tool to learn the
correct equation for balancing. Will help to learn it
much quicker and efficiently.

Equations::Tutoral" is listed as a broken link and
